Really great place to spend a few nights. Although small in size the little house more than made up for this in terms of comfort and the host was superb.

The house is located in the old white town center of Stavanger. It has modern equipment, but did not lose its character. Everthing (shops, restaurants) is on walking distance. You overlook the harbour.

We had a fabulous stay in this amazing cottage, so typical of those in the old town and thoughtfully renovated. The location is perfect, central but quiet in the evening. Great comms too so wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

A hidden gem in the heart of the harbor! This place was simply perfect — cozy, beautifully arranged, and full of character. It’s right next to all the energy of the harbor, but tucked away enough to feel peaceful and intimate. Everything was...

Welcome to Trollstua, “The Troll Cottage” - a charming and atmospheric home that captures the magic of old Stavanger. Built in 1807, this lovingly preserved 53m² wooden house was first owned by a local sailor, and today offers a peaceful retreat in the most historic part of town. Located on Nedre Strandgate, one of Gamle Stavanger’s most iconic and picturesque streets, Trollstua is surrounded by white-painted wooden cottages, cobblestone alleys, and vibrant gardens. The neighborhood is Norway’s largest concentration of wooden buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, just steps from the harbor and the Stavanger Maritime Museum. Inside, the house combines traditional charm with modern comfort - ideal for couples, solo travelers, small families or anyone seeking a unique and authentic stay. The name Trollstua is inspired by Norwegian folklore and reflects the cozy, fairytale-like atmosphere that defines the home. Whether you’re wandering the charming streets, visiting local museums, or simply enjoying a quiet moment in this historic setting, Trollstua aims at offering an unforgettable experience in the heart of Stavanger
I’m Mickael – half French, half Norwegian, which might explain why a baguette with salmon is my ideal meal. I’ve always had a deep love for Stavanger’s Old Town, with its history, charm, and timeless atmosphere. That’s why I’m opening the doors of Trollstua – my small, historic home in Gamle Stavanger – to guests from around the world. Sharing this special place means a lot to me, and I hope you’ll enjoy experiencing a unique piece of Norway’s heritage, just as much as I do.
If cobblestone streets, white wooden houses, and the faint smell of history in the air sound like your idea of a good time, then welcome to Gamle Stavanger - where time seems to have politely declined the invitation to move on. Nedre Strandgate sits right in the heart of this fairytale setting. The street is one of the most photographed in the city - and for good reason. Between the flower boxes, wooden shutters, and the occasional friendly cat posing like it owns the place, it’s almost suspiciously picturesque. You’re just a few steps from the Stavanger Maritime Museum, perfect for brushing up on your sailor knowledge without having to swab a single deck. A little further along, you’ll find the Norwegian Canning Museum, where you’ll learn more about sardines than you ever thought possible - and somehow enjoy it. The harbor is just around the corner, offering sea views and strong coffee, and the area is sprinkled with cozy cafés, local galleries, and excellent restaurants. Whether you’re into fresh seafood, vintage shops, or simply watching the world go by with a pastry in hand, you’ll feel right at home here.
