Our favourite bakeries are EuroBakery, Casa Hindie and Hector's Bistro. La Queseria has excellent local and imported cheeses.
The couple on the corner of Aleman and Carnaval squeeze excellent fresh orange juice.
Plazuela Machado is always a beautiful experience, especially Friday and Saturday evenings with a night market and amazing music.
You can get groceries at Soriana in the Golden Zone. The Pino Suarez market downtown is open every day and sells almost everything.
On Saturday mornings there is an excellent Organic Market in Zaragoza Square (twenty minute walk). Olas Altas beach directly below us is great for tanning, swimming is good if the Waves aren’t too strong, in which case good for amateur surfing.
There are dozens of amazing restaurants in the Historic Center.
Our favourite beach is on Stone Island, which is visible from our house. Take a pulmonea to the Embarcadero Playa Sur. (15 minutes). Then take the water taxi 30 pesos return each) across the cruise ship harbour to the island (actually a peninsula) and walk ten minutes southward to the beach. Our favourite restaurant on the beach is El Valero, about half way down. They give you lounge chairs and umbrellas in return for your patronage.
Our favourite shop for beautiful handmade jewelry and local clothing and artwork is Casa Etnika on Benito Juarez and Constitución. Beautiful Oaxacan bedcovers and rugs at Francisco Ruiz, 1313 Carnaval.
ATM cards are accepted at most local banks, typically with a transaction fee of about 90 pesos per withdrawal.
