Nosoko is a quiet neighborhood on the west side of Ishigaki island, only about 20 minutes from the airport, and about 30 minutes from downtown shopping. There are no convenience stores nearby, just green fields and forests, and of course our two beautiful beaches. Within an hour after arrival you can be relaxing on the beach here, making our retreat far more convenient than anything in mainland Okinawa. Mt. Mappe is nearby for hiking, as are all the beaches in the north part of the island. There are a number of restaurants within 10-20 minutes' drive. Susan and Gary have lived in Japan for over 40 years, including over 20 years in Ishigaki. Gary runs a typhoon protection business and has translated books such as "The Tale of Akahachi", an historical epic based in Ishigaki, and "The Wilderness" by the Ainu poet Takeichi Moritake. Susan is an educator and together with our daughter Bonnie helps take care of our guests.
