Hida House is a large machiya style house located right next to Takayama city’s Old Town. Resembling a Japanese style mountain lodge, the house is a mix of east and west, and only a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 minute walk the main sights in Takayama city. On the first floor, there is a large living room with tatami floors and a “horigotatsu,” a traditional Japanese style table where you sit on the floor, but your feet fall freely beneath you. Past the bath and restroom is a western style kitchen looking out onto a private garden. Along with a small deck to enjoy the garden under the open sky, the kitchen allows for easy cooking and is great for couples or large groups. On the second floor, there are three bedrooms with a mix of western style beds and futons. The master bedroom is very spacious, while the other two rooms offer privacy for the other members of your party. There is a small balcony looking out to a shrine behind the house, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea or sipping some famous Takayama sake.
