Considered one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Bologna, the Savena neighborhood is located south-east of Bologna and takes its name from the stream of the same name that passes through that territory, marking a natural border with the Municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena. The area is characterized by a more hilly southern part, which slopes down to become flat in the northern area. The residential areas of Bellaria, Due Madonne, Fossolo, Monte Donato and Pontevecchio are part of the neighborhood. From an urban planning point of view, Savena is partly made up of tall apartment buildings dating back to the 1950s and 1970s. On the other hand, it is characterized by beautiful villas, including modern architecture, that stand close to the hilly area and are highly sought after in the real estate market. However, the intense construction process has not particularly affected public greenery, in fact it is an area with large green areas and gardens. Despite its more peripheral location, the neighborhood is well connected to the city center thanks to an efficient public transport network, especially buses.
