The Maddalena district is one of the six ancient neighborhoods that make up the urban fabric of Genoa's historic center. Although it retains all the typical characteristics of the old town, the area has undergone many transformations over the centuries, which have shaped the image it presents to us today. The district borders to the south with the Molo district, to the east with Portoria, to the north with San Vincenzo, and to the west with Pré. This part of the city developed, as often happens with human settlements, as a village around a passage area: the Roman road that connected the western part of the city to the eastern part, passing outside the city.
