Step back in time and experience something very unique: A traditional bow top gypsy caravan set in a woodland in the Donegal hills totally off the beaten track. Lovingly restored and well insulated you feel cosy and snug in the midst of nature. There are only very few caravans left now in Ireland. While the Wonderly Wagon is larger than the old traditional ones, it is still a small space and comes under the category of "tiny house or space", so please be aware of this.
The caravan has two small double beds (bunk) The bed on top is 6.1 foot (about 1.86m) long, the one below is shorter, about 5 foot (about 1.52m) long (perfect for children).
The caravan has modern amenities like running mains water supply, a small (camping) gas cooker, mini fridge, kettle and toaster and can be heated with a wall-mounted electric heater, so even in the middle of the winter you won't get cold.
You will have your own private bathroom just a few steps away from the wagon.
Please also note we do offer free, unlimited WIFI via a mobile dongle, but as we can't get Fiber optic broadband in our rural setting it is not very fast. (so uploading and downloading can be a problem).
The wagon is located next to next the our Meadowsweet Forest Lodge where we also welcome guests. Facilities such as bathroom and kitchen are not shared, each listing has their own private facilities.
At the minute the face of the wagon is changing, we are refurbishing and repainting. New pictures of the new face will be uploaded soon!
We are a family of 4 and apart from welcoming guests to our place in the hills and woods we run a little farm were we grow our own organic vegetables and herbs. (We have polytunnels and outside are raised beds for growing our produce) We have a small production making herbal tea's. We have 2 dogs and a couple of Indian Runner pet ducks.
We live about 5km outside the village of Fintown and are linked via a mountainous back-road to the picturesque town of Glenties (half an hour drive), while Fintown is 10 mins drive away. We are surrounded by forests, lakes, streams and rivers on the foot of Aghla mountain. We are located right beside a waymarked walking way called "The Gaeltacht/Sli na Finne Way", which makes it a great place for walking and exploring including lots of other walks and ways right at your doorstep. About half an hours drive from us we have several stunning beaches. The highest cliffs of Europe are nearby as well as Glenveagh National Park.
This is also an area well renowned for traditional music. Some famous fiddlers are living nearby and you will find regular traditional music sessions especially in the Glenties area.
