Nestled in a stunning waterside location, The Boat House is a tranquil and eco-conscious retreat offering geothermal heating, solar panels, and excellent insulation for a truly sustainable stay. Take in breathtaking views of Adrigole Harbour Hungry Hill and the majestic Caha Mountains, where you can watch local wildlife—seals, birds, and occasionally dolphins—grace the waters just outside your door. Whether you choose to unwind or explore, this is a perfect base for discovering the beauty of the Beara Peninsula and beyond.
The Boat House features four comfortable, ensuite bedrooms, each designed for ultimate relaxation. With hotel-quality beds, guests have the option of either singles or luxurious superking beds. A Place to Relax and Recharge
Every room at The Boat House offers a spectacular view of the harbour and mountains, making it a peaceful retreat for anyone looking to reconnect with nature. The Boat House is just steps away from a small rocky beach and sits beside Adrigole Pier, which is home to a mussel farm and two inshore fishermen who harvest crab, lobster, and shrimp.
In addition to the natural beauty, the harbour is teeming with wildlife. From the balcony, you might spot grey seals, egrets, herons, and oyster catchers, and occasionally, a pod of dolphins or our resident otters. It’s not uncommon to see the otters playing early in the morning at the harbour entrance.
You can bring your bikes, kayaks or dinghies to explore the area and store them safely in our boatyard during your stay.
Visitors often leave with plans to return—there’s simply something special about this place.
A Legacy of Hospitality and Adventure
As a family, we've spent 24 years running a sailing school and café from The Boat House, and in 2024, we transformed the building into an environmentally friendly holiday home and bed and breakfast. We love welcoming guests and sharing this extraordinary spot with others. We're passionate about outdoor activities, from hiking and swimming to sailing and cycling. Gail, your main host, is an avid painter and sketch artist when she's not up on the hills or swimming in the harbour.
Our location is ideal for those looking to embrace the great outdoors—whether you're an artist seeking inspiration, a hiker exploring the rugged landscapes, or an adventurer looking for your next challenge. The Boat House yard is also part of our active sailing school and kayak rental business, West Cork Sailing Centre. With direct access to the water from the slipway at Adrigole Pier, guests can enjoy swimming, kayaking, and sailing right on their doorstep.
We provide Kayaking with the Seals in June, July and August, when you can join us for a paddle in the sit-on-top kayaks and canoes.
We’d love for you to come and experience The Boat House—whether you’re here to relax, explore, or be inspired, we know you’ll leave with cherished memories and the desire to return.
Adventure Awaits Right Outside Your Door
The Boat House is an ideal base for exploring the Beara Peninsula. Just a short drive away are the charming towns of Castletownbere (15 minutes west) and Glengarriff (15 minutes east), and Kenmare is a scenic 45-minute drive over the mountain pass. The surrounding landscape offers endless opportunities for adventure, including cycling the Healy Pass or hiking the Beara Way trail along the Caha Mountains.
For those looking to venture further, the local bus service makes it easy to embark on one-way hikes and explore the region at your own pace.
Summer Activities and Amenities
During the summer months, we offer kayak and canoe rentals through West Cork Sailing Centre and provide live-aboard sail training on our 37-foot yacht, Jessy of Adrigole. The pier and slipway are popular with locals and visitors alike for swimming and watersports.
The area is popular with adventurers, artists, and writers, who often find the scenery a source of inspiration.
