Looking for a holiday home which has stunning Atlantic views, five minutes’ walk to the beach, five minutes’ drive to one of the best Golf Links courses in Ireland (which hosted the Irish Open inn 2018) and only 15 minutes’ walk to some of the best hotels and dining in Ireland?
Our holiday home at Ardagh ticks all these boxes and many more. The bungalow has three double bedrooms and sleeps 7 plus a cot. It is dog-friendly and suitable for the elderly and infirm.
I'm Ruth and I have owned this house for 20 years, coming here at least 3 times a year since 2003. I love hosting different guests and helping them appreciate this stunning corner of Ireland.
There are many fabulous local beaches to explore, often semi deserted even in the height of Summer. Favourites include Lenan Bay, with views onto the next peninsula across Lough Swilly, Dunree beach and Kinnagoe Bay (often compared to the Amalfi Coast!) where the wreck of Spanish Armada ship La Trinidad Valencera was found in the 1970s. Locally the Isle of Doagh is stunning, as is Five Fingers Strand and the nearby incredible views from Knockamany Bends.
Doagh Famine Village provides an insight into the history of the area and the impact of the potato Famine, and is a short drive from the house. Dunree Fort is a local military museum, and Malin Head can be visited to see the Martello Tower and understand the role that neutral Ireland played during the second World War, as well as see where some of Star Wars was filmed. Moville is on the other side of the peninsula with a gorgeous waterfront walk, as well as has a Inish Adventures, a canoe and kayak water sports facility, as well as a fabulous Cooley Pitch and Putt which boasts tricky 18 holes and amazing views over Loch Foyle. On the other side of the water you can travel to the Giant’s Causeway for the day, and the truly amazing Gobbins Coastal Path is two hours’ drive away. In Donegal County the town of Letterkenny is worth a visit, as is the wonderful Glenveagh National Park.
If Golf is your thing, Ballyliffin Golf Club will be first on your list, but other famous courses are within striking distance including Portrush and Portstewart. The Antrim coast alaso boasts the famous Mussenden Temple and its stunning views.
Local festivals include the Clonmany Festival and the DylanFest at Moville.
