Nestled in a small coconut grove just metres from the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Villa KuraKura (Turtle House) has been built in a tropical style with the convenience of modern living. All rooms have air conditioning and the 3 double en-suite bedrooms enjoy sea views. The villa has a huge first floor decking area with doors to the living room and master bedroom, providing an open plan layout.
Set back from the sea, across the single track coastal road to Bangko Bangko, the Villa offers a feel of the 'real' Lombok. The deck is the perfect place to enjoy al fresco dining, to take advantage of the magnificent views of the offshore islands, or to watch the friendly locals going about their business.
Located in the luscious flower garden is our large, private, family friendly freshwater swimming pool for the exclusive use of guests. It has a safe children’s area in the shallow end and underwater seating around the walls. For extra comfort, there is a shower; a thatched berugaq (shaded seating area); umbrellas and furniture on the surrounding decking.
We should point out that our pool is located in the middle of our garden and is easily accessed by safe paths and stairs.
Our beautifully secluded pool is shared with guests who are staying in the 2 other Villas on the same site. More often than not, guests will have the large, safe pool to themselves.
The villa is one of three on our site which share the same staff and management and the other two villas - called PaoPao and Rembulan - are also available for larger groups.
Villa KuraKura has the basics of fridge, microwave, toaster and water dispenser. You can ask our friendly staff if you would prefer to eat your breakfast either in the villa or at our restaurant, Cafe Kupu-Kupu.
Villa KuraKura is owned by our friends Glen and Jacqui and their friends who live in Devon in the UK. In 2004/2005 I was lucky enough to buy land in this unspoilt region of south west Lombok with my husband, Andrew. Then we started to build two villas on land next to KuraKura with the help of other investors who are our friends and family. Jacqui and Glen started building Villa KuraKura in 2010 and it was finished about 18 months later.
We started travelling in Indonesia in 1990 when we visited Bali and some of the other islands over a period of 6 months. As soon as we arrived in Indonesia we fell in love with it! We find everything about the country fascinating; the interesting culture and different religions; the scenery and amazing natural landscape; the beautiful people and their outlook on life; the delicious food and of course the sunshine. We hope you'll enjoy spending time here too!
Our favourite past time is sitting on the verandah at Villa KuraKura, reading a book with a coffee or a beer and watching the world go by - it's very relaxing.
A close second is taking a fishing boat out to one of the many outlying gili islands to snorkel over the beautiful coral and sea life.
We believe Villa KuraKura provides the ideal holiday location, with snorkelling, diving, surfing close by.
Take a short boat trip over the stunning neighbouring South West Gili Islands, Gili Asahan, Gili Ringgit and Gili Layar to snorkel over pristine coral and view the abundant sea life just swimming off the beach. The Dive Centre, Oceanway Dive on Gili Asahan offer guests a full range of SCUBA diving and snorkelling opportunities including lessons and PADI courses.
Local boat trips and excursions can be easily arranged with our on friendly staff. Boat and car trips should be paid for in cash direct to the boat man or driver. There are many interesting places to visit in Lombok - for example - the pottery making village at Banyamulek, the textile weaving centre at Sukarara village, the "old" Dutch colonial quarter in Ampenan, the daily market in Cakra and of course the many gift shops, cafes and restaurants in Senggigi. If you prefer to go shopping, there's the new Epicentrum Mall in Mataram - they have lots of restaurants here too. If you like visiting jungles and waterfalls, ask to be taken to Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep or the Monkey Forest
Last and not least, Villa KuraKura is about 10km from the world renowned surf beach at Bangko Bangko or Desert Point - ask our staff for details of how to get there.
