Panagiotis and Monika Marcoulakis first opened the doors of the “Polydoros” hotel in 1986. The son of a priest and a ballerina from the Vienna State Opera, came to Paleochora and built one of the first hotels in the area. This was Panagiotis’ father wish who believed that the future of Greece – especially that of Crete lies in tourism. The hotel was named in his honor since he passed away before he was able it to see it completed.
The 25 year-old tradition of hospitality and impeccable service are nowadays carried on by the new generation, the siblings Polydoros and Sofia Markoulakis. After receiving a remarkable education in hotel management and marketing in London and Vienna but also armed with a 10-year experience in managing 5 star hotels overseas, the siblings came back to Chania to take over the family business.
