With a plethora of tavernas and fine dining restaurants, boutiques, cafes, fortress, museums and art culture, Rethymno is not to be missed. As the sun sets over Rethymno town, the atmosphere changes under the twinkling night sky. As you are just a short drive from the highway, you are in a prime position to explore the south or west of the island but also within an hours drive of Heraklion. If you don’t want to travel far there is plenty to explore on your doorstep. Lake Kournas, known as the “Emerald’ lake, is half an hour’s drive away. Hire a pedalo or paddle boat and turtle spot, swim in the lake or simply enjoy the glorious scenery and environment in one of the lakeside tavernas. Argiropouli is famous for its lush green vegetation and water springs. Many of the tavernas have water wheels and are famous for fresh trout and ‘antikristo’ lamb cooked slowly over an open fire.
