Step back in time in this restored Maniot stonehouse, originally built in 1811, in Flomochori. Built with the traditional fortified style (ohiro spiti), this two-story home blends historic charm with modern comfort. The floors are connected by an exterior staircase, reflecting Mani’s defensive architecture with low doorways and stone walls.
Downstairs features a cozy living room with a 55” Smart TV, a couch, a small sleeping nook (190 X 65), bioethanol fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, dining area, washer, A/C, and a bathroom with a one person hammam. Upstairs offers two queen beds, a 40” Smart TV, A/C, fan, small fridge, and a second full bathroom.
Across a small alley, enjoy a private garden with olive, fig and lemon, trees. Located in peaceful Flomochori, next to the historic Kafki Tower, it’s a short drive to Areopoli. Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine, smart TVs, and an independent water tank ensure a comfortable stay.
We are a family with deep roots in Flomochori, Mani. Restoring this historic home was our way of honouring the legacy of our grandparents and preserving the unique Maniot lifestyle. Through Basil Tree Stone House, we hope to offer guests a glimpse into that world — authentic, simple, powerful — while also providing the comfort and hospitality of modern Greece.
Basil Tree Stone House is located in the picturesque Flomochori village. Flomochori is a stone-built village in the heart of Mani, which is home for Mani’s highest tower. You’ll be surrounded by traditional architecture, quiet stone streets, and stunning views of the dramatic tail end of the Taygetos mountain range. The village also has traditional taverns at the village plaza and a small local mini market. It is 15–20 minutes by car from Areopoli for full services (groceries, pharmacy, restaurants). The area is tranquil and best suited for travellers seeking relaxation, nature, and an authentic Maniot experience.
