Arundel is an ancient town that grew following the Battle of Hastings and the Norman conquest in 1066. William the Conqueror handed Sussex over to his right hand man, Norman noble Roger de Montgomery on condition that fortifications were built along the river. So Arundel Castle began its life in 1067. It is England's second largest castle, with magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun. It has been the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk for over 700 years.
The river Arun flows through the centre of town and offers delightful walks up river towards Amberley and the South Downs Way or down river towards the sea.
If you don't feel up to the South Downs, then Swanbourne lake is right on the doorstep, so Arundel is a perfect venue if you like being outdoors.
The Studio is right in the heart of town, just a couple of minutes from pubs, restaurants, and shops.
Arundel is also a great place to return to after a day at Goodwood or out visiting the English winemakers in the area. Its range of restaurant and pubs mean there is usually something happening somewhere.
