The Shotley Peninsula is an unspoiled area of Suffolk with beautiful views and landscapes located between the rivers Stour and Orwell. The Peninsula is walkers paradise and walking is a great way to see the local wildlife and experience the breathtaking views. The small hamlet of Pin Mill is home to the Butt and Oyster - a charming pub serving local real ales and a seasonal menu with spectacular views of the river Orwell. Other local pubs include the Red Lion in Chelmondiston and the Boot in Freston.
Within walking distance of The Lodge is the Suffolk Food Hall which has an internationally recognised food hall, home and garden department, children's paddock with jumping pillow and two restaurants. The cafe is ideal for a light bite or you can head over to the Cookhouse Restaurant for a more substantial meal or afternoon tea with views of the river. Be sure to make time for a visit to the Suffolk Food Hall during your stay. It will not disappoint.
Alton Water, the largest man-made reservoir in Suffolk, offers a range of water sports for all ages and abilities, and provides a great opportunity to take in the stunning scenery of Alton Water. The water sports centre provides year round hire of canoes, kayaks, row boats etc, as well as offering tuition. It is also possible to walk the full eight miles around Alton Water - dogs are welcome too so why not enjoy the slower pace of a gentle stroll.
Wherever you are in Suffolk, you're never too far from the spectacular Suffolk Coast so a trip to one of the popular seaside towns of Aldeburgh, Southwold or Felixstowe is a holiday must.
