On your arrival you'll find a welcome pack of a few snacks and essentials. Please feel free to share the large walled garden with us (interaction optional) and also enjoy breakfast or an evening glass on the sunny private patio which you'll have to yourselves.
The Hideaway has quite a history to tell. When the roof needed replacing and the forge was surrounded by buckets we decided it could make perfect guest accommodation!
Over the last 18 months we have foraged for, rescued, restored and repurposed pretty much everything in the building. We've enjoyed every moment of it and we really hope you will too!We have lovingly renovated The Hideaway to provide stunning and unique accommodation for up to four special guests. Although modest in size, the 1911 census shows a family of 11 once lived here - which must have been quite a squash. The building is over 200 years old and has been both a woodsman's cottage (as part of the Ashton Court Estate) and a working forge and it retains many original features.
Hi we are Jane and Maria and we've lived here over 20 years, since moving from London. We are always looking for the "not so obvious" and consider ourselves unofficial ambassadors of all things "Brissol".
When work allows, we love to travel and especially enjoy places that might not be on every visitors itinerary!
We are friendly and curious folk and enjoy meeting different people, which is why we are happy to be hosting your visit. We love Bristol but also need be near the countryside, so Long Ashton is our perfect location.
We are interested in art, theatre, history, politics, walking, rowing, horse riding, motorcycles, wild swimming, canoeing, eating out, cooking (if it doesn't take too long) and are always delighted to discover a new country pub.
We work flexibly, so are sometimes about in the day and are also around most evenings. If you have anything you'd particularly like to do on your visit we'll be happy to advise, if we can!
We are in a quiet location, accessed by a pedestrianised lane but only a few minutes walk from local shops, a small supermarket and several old pubs including the cosy Bird in Hand, and if you don't mind a short walk uphill you'll find The Miner's Rest which has the most amazing view over the village and back towards Bristol. For a stone baked pizza, evening tapas, or a gourmet breakfast visit the Old Library. If you'd rather a take-out, the village options are Chinese and Malaysian, Pizza or Fish and Chips. There is ample, easy, on street parking but if you prefer, the bus stop is only a minutes walk away, with frequent buses into Bristol City Centre (a 15 minute ride). It's an quick taxi ride to the main attractions of the city (the Historic Harbourside, Brunel's amazing SS Great Britain, The Suspension Bridge, The Clifton Downs), which are all a 10 minute drive away and with Ashton Court parklands and National Trust Tyntesfield on your doorstep, it is perfect for a relaxing and entertaining visit.
