A charming small country house in the village of Great Ryburgh which has been lovingly decorated as a comfortable place to stay. The garden to the front of the house is full of colour in the summer and is bordered by a flint wall with roses clambering up it. Breakfast is taken in the dining room which has oak wood floors and antique furniture. The hostess has been welcoming guests for several years and wishes to make people feel comfortable as soon as they arrive. Guests should be aware that the village pub has recently been closed which will involve a car journey to other local pubs, of which there are several to suit all tastes.
Elizabeth enjoys meeting people and making them comfortable at The Dower House - the garden is a great passion, being something of a 'plantswoman', along with travel and birdwatching, and enjoys the local area and history. She is also a bell ringer (practice night is Thursday!) and is involved in all the different village activities that Great Ryburgh has to offer. She has a farming background with family in the industry close by. She also enjoys cooking and will offer evening meals if given enough notice, particularly now that the pub has closed.
The Dower House, Gt Ryburgh, is centrally situated for visiting all parts of Norfolk, whether it be the sandy beaches at Wells with its amazingly eclectic group of beach huts, to the popular beach at Holkham, or taking trips to Blakeney Point to see the seals and other wildlife, or to visit local historic houses. Blickling, Felbrigg and Oxborough National Trust properties are in easy reach, as well as privately owned Houghton Hall, Holkham Hall and Raynham Hall close by. There are several excellent eateries in the area, from pubs to Thai to Gastro to Michelin Star restaurants. We have a very serviceable village shop and post office, but unfortunately, like many others, our village pub has closed recently.
