The Church Rooms began life in 1845 as the British (Chapel) School, built to educate local children from chapel-going families at a time when many left school by 12 to work the land or learn a trade. With no playground or heating, winters were harsh enough to freeze the ink in the inkwells, and children ran laps around the square just to warm their hands. Yet over 90 pupils once filled its two rooms, grouped by age, taught by a single teacher who moved between floors. Generations of local children sat on its benches, some bound for farm work, others exposed to poetry, physiology, and even lectures on blood transfusion. Now lovingly restored, The Church Rooms offers a quieter kind of stay, still echoing with the spirit of shared learning and village life.

We have spent a few years lovingly renovating this beautiful church building that sits across the lane from Joey's parents house. Before this Grade II listed building fell into disrepair, Joey went to Scouts here, his mum to Pilates and it has had many lives as a school house, a meeting point for Young Farmers and more. As parents to 4 young children we have tried to create a space that we would want to visit to work as a two bedroom haven for couples but to also have the option for many kids or even adult groups. We have tried to keep as many of the features of the original building as we could whilst making it a beautiful space to stay. We hope you love it as much as we do!
