Welcome to The Buttoned Hearth – a nostalgic, storybook cottage tucked in the peaceful village of Tirril, just a stone’s throw from the quiet beauty of Ullswater and a short hop to the convenience of Penrith.
Lovingly restored and full of character, The Buttoned Hearth is designed to feel like a warm hug from the past. From the moment you step through the front door, you're greeted by vintage charm: stone floors, deep red curtains, antiques, and soft lighting that sets the mood for a slow, restful stay.
The heart of the home is, of course, the open fire. Whether it’s a rainy afternoon or a crisp evening, it’s the perfect spot to curl up with a book or enjoy a glass of wine. We include a starter pack of logs as part of your stay, and there’s an honesty box if you wish to use more.
The cottage sleeps up to 4 and is ideal for couples, solo travellers, or small families. The décor has a quiet whimsy, every corner tells a story, from the old buttons in glass jars to the shelves lined with books and classic board games.
Just 50 metres to 3 public footpaths and a local pub, the location is ideal for gentle rambles or longer walks, and it’s only a 5-minute drive to Pooley Bridge, where you’ll find lakeside pubs, cafés, and boat trips. Penrith, just 10 minutes away, offers supermarkets, shops, and restaurants for anything you may need.
The Buttoned Hearth isn’t just a place to stay - it’s a place to pause, recharge, and reconnect with life’s slower, sweeter moments.
Hi, I’m Daniel! I’m the proud host of The Buttoned Hearth and a big fan of slow mornings, good films, and long countryside walks (preferably followed by tea and cake). When I’m not welcoming guests or pottering around the cottage, I run a small family restaurant in Keswick and daydream about which movie to watch next.
I’ve tried to make The Buttoned Hearth feel like a proper escape - peaceful, cosy, and full of charm. Hope you feel right at home!
