The neighbourhood The house is located in the quaint village of Hamble (also known as Hamble Le Rice) that sits on the River Hamble estuary, on the outskirts of Southampton. Just a 3-minute walk away from the house is Port Hamble where you can get up close to the sparkling yachts in the marina and enjoy the high life at the gourmet restaurants and chic champagne bars. Meanwhile, the centre of Hamble with its winding streets and historic cottages is very pretty, and only about half a mile on foot. Here you’ll find a convenience shop, plus a host of pubs and restaurants, the perfect place to try local produce, ale and specialist rum, while there are gorgeous riverside views and scenic walks too. During WWII it was the site of an aircraft training facility, but today it attracts yachters who moor at the marina or visit for sailing races and events. A short drive from the house, or a good walk if you’re in the mood, there’s Hamble Common Beach which is great for a refreshing stroll. Further afield you can visit the city of Southampton, Manor Farm Country Park, Netley Abbey, or take a ferry across to the Isle of Wight for the day, or the train to the New Forest. Getting around A car is not necessary for travelling to the property but is recommended for ease of getting around. The local train station is in Hamble, but the nearest mainline train station is Southampton Airport Parkway where there is a taxi rank.
