We are really looking forward to welcoming you to Shabby Shepherds. We bought our smallholding
in 2018 and have slowly grown our menagerie of animals. We both have busy and stressful day jobs and our home life provides us with the peace and relaxation we need to balance this. It was a natural progression for us to share what we have with guests.
Having both lived in Cumbria for most of our lives we have an extensive knowledge of the Lake District and the Eden Valley. We are both outdoor enthusiasts ourselves and are keen to help you get the very most out of your stay with us. We are always happy to point you in the right direction, be it recommending a walking route to finding the very best places to eat!
We really hope you enjoy your stay with us.

The main attraction for visitors is our proximity to the Lake District National Park with all that has to offer. Lake Ullswater is a 20 minute drive and Keswick a 30 minute drive. However, the Eden Valley, with its chocolate box villages, country pubs, lovely walks and stunning scenery is much quieter. We have walking guides for the area available for you to use. Lacy's caves next to the River Eden and Long Meg, a neolithic stone circle are right on our doorstep.
The market town of Penrith is 10 minutes away and has an abundance of supermarkets, individual shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaways, a leisure centre, parks, a cinema and railway station (on the west coast main line).
Our neighbouring village of Lazonby (2 miles) has a Co-op/Post Office, an outdoor swimming pool, a railway station on the historic Settle-Carlisle line and riverside walks.
Pubs! The Highland Drove in our village and only a 3 minute walk/stagger away. They serve amazing food and drinks. Booking is essential (@highlanddrove) Alternatively, The Fetherston Arms and The Crown in Kirkoswald (3 miles) also serve excellent food and beer.
