A much-loved, spacious, secluded log-built house (not just a cabin), with a grass roof, shared with deer, red squirrels, grouse and rabbits on four acres of private land with a beautiful stream at the bottom, in the midst of which is a tiny 'picnic island'. Log fire with wood, prosecco on arrival, 3 bed, 2 bath, 7 beds plus 2 sofa beds. (Main bedroom superking or two singles as preferred). Very successfully rented on other sites for over ten years and a favourite ‘happy place’ for families, groups, couples and their furry friends. Some guests have said it’s a secret hobbit house (but bigger!). Hikes and cycle trails (all levels) straight out the door; close to Kaoglen Hotel bar and restaurant and the Kirkmichael village shop. On the Cateran Trail. Ideally located for Glenshee Ski Centre and Cairngorms National Park, Blair Athol Distillery, Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and local Munros (Glas Tulaichean, the Cairnwells, Schiehallion), salmon fishing, kayaking and whitewater rafting on the Rivers Tummel and Tay and Loch Faskally, Highland Fling Bungee, adventure centres like Nae Limits and local beauty spots such as Black Linn Falls and Dunkeld. Secret spots for wild swimming (just ask). Wifi and board games and smart tv and neflix and barbeque pit and yoga mat and plenty of books for lazy days...
We bought this house because we fell in love with the Cateran Trail and local Munros and Kindrogan forest (the ‘gruffalo forest’ forever for the kids) and we wanted a place where our three year old could run wild and explore with his pals, while we had a beer and a chill with ours. We have had so many precious memories, retreats, celebrations and fun times here with family and friends and love the fact that our loghouse has become a place for lots of people to share, and make their memories here too. We love 'naturewatch' with a cup of coffee by the window or on the patio. We recently saw around 30 deer all at once (and they come up to the living room window if you are lucky) and a large tawny owl in one of the giant firs. Yvonne has taken up wild swimming and enjoys the secret little lakes and lochs. We know and love the local area (our ‘happy place’) and so ask us for any tips! We have made a map of our favourite places (see photos and the map on the dining room wall...), and we are working on a book of local secrets...Our best memories here include treasure hunts and hide and seek; retreats with older relatives who can't walk so far, but who can enjoy the beautiful scenery with just a short walk or without leaving the house; going across the stepping stones to 'picnic island'; and marshmallows and hot dogs and 's'mores' and plenty of beer by the fire pit...
Quiet, secluded, forest and hills and lakes, but with easy access to Kaoglen Hotel bar and restaurant. The deer like to sleep in our garden. Walk out the door, turn left, and you are on beautiful hiking and cycling trails. Turn right, pass the cows and horses and often deer, and you are soon in the village.
