Hello my name is Kathleen. I am recently retired and live with my husband Willie in Back on the island of Lewis. We have recently renovated my family home Murray House named after my late father John Murray who planned and built the house in 1963. It is situated in the sleepy village of Swordale, 3 miles north from Stornoway airport and 5 miles from the main town of Stornoway.
Murray House is the perfect base from which to explore the outer Hebrides. there is a local shop 1 mile away with a café and local Heritage centre. Meals and refreshments are served throughout the day with the shop open from 9am-6pm six days a week. Outdoor enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with a variety of activities throughout the island including hill walking, fishing on the many lochs, surfing. wild swimming and an 18 hole golf course situated in Stornoway. There is also an 9 hole golf course located in Scarista on the west coast of Harris, often described as one of the worlds finest settings for a game of golf.
The main town of Stornoway is home to the Lewis Castle and has fabulous grounds and woodland walks. Visit the Harris Distillery in Tarbert and sample the famous Harris gin and "Herach" whiskey or head further south to Leverburgh and catch a ferry to North Uist and the Isle of Barra for an exploratory day out. For guests who enjoy music, there are a number of festivals throughout the year including the ever popular Hebridean Celtic Festival held annually in July.
