Little Fig is a short walk away from the bustle of Aldeburgh High Street, a wonderful seaside town to holiday in. There are a number of restaurants offering delicious dishes with a strong emphasis on local produce, including the highly-acclaimed, The Suffolk serving the most delicious lunch and dinners, with a beautiful roof terrace overlooking the sea, or the Lighthouse Restaurant for fish dishes, Aldeburgh Market, or The Sea Spice for delicious Indian meals. Of course, you may just want to experience fish and chips which seem to taste so much better eaten on the beach!
Strolling along the High Street there are numerous art galleries, boutiques, gift shops and one of the oldest cinemas in England. Aldeburgh Cinema shows a varied programme of films, live theatre, live opera and documentaries, and has recently celebrated 100 years of film. Another art venue not to miss is The Jubilee Hall which offer an array of musical and dramatic performances throughout the year.
Aldeburgh has a wealth of independent, locally owned clothes shops including Fleur and The Pug and The Pussycat, ice cream stores, St Ives and Harris & James, and The Two Magpies bakery. Stock up on foodie luxuries at Lawsons Deli and the award-winning Salter and King butchers. Large groups shouldn’t miss the opportunity to experience one of Aldeburgh’s best venues, Fishers Gin for a fabulous distillery tour, making your own botanical tea and tasting the gins, with the best sea views for miles.
Thorpeness is just a short walk away; this delightful village is known as the home of Peter Pan with Thorpeness Meare based on the story of Peter Pan. Other features include a windmill, and the House In The Clouds. There are two cafes including The Kitchen and Meare Tearoom with Emporium selling a wide selection of homeware, furniture, collectables and ornaments.
