Truly a home from home, 5* High Ridge Barn has been designed to provide the best possible holiday experience. The 4 king size bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a chef-level equipped kitchen and enormous double-height living area provides the perfect space for family celebrations and group get-togethers. Babies and dogs are also fully catered for so guests can pack lightly.
The wood burning sauna is a joy after wonderful scenic walks from the door, and the half-acre dog-secured gardens are a real asset. A louvred pergola provides shade and covers the 8-person outside dining table and chairs. Up to 4 dogs are welcome and can enjoy unlimited use of the dog grooming cabin . Bring your EVs as there is a Zappi car charger at the Barn so you can relax during your stay.
There's even a Baby List so guests can choose which type of cot, high chair and baby monitor they'd prefer to be provided, in addition to a baby step, bath, gym and nappy disposal bin.
The landscaped mature gardens are planted with bee, bird and wildlife friendly plants. Both orchards are now very fruitful, and the wild half of the gardens are homes to many types of butterflies, birds, hedgehogs, and hares. The rejuvenated fenced wild life pond is now home to dragonflies, frogs, toads - and a couple of wild ducks visit regularly.
Having lived in central London for many years, our own escape to the country had to be to the beautiful Peak District National Park. Our guests provide us with the chance to meet and perhaps chat to interesting people. We enjoy growing (and eating!) our own produce, and our rescue menagerie comprises hens, sheep, a dog, a very large cat, and several hedgehogs.
Our dream was to make High Ridge as eco-friendly and sustainable as we could - a tall order for a C17th solid stone farmhouse and C19th solid stone barn. We now have two large solar panel systems with battery storage in case of power cuts, a heat pump replacing LPG for the farmhouse, super-insulated roofs, new insulated hardwood windows and doors, a new EV charger, and a bore hole.
Everything in the Barn is as environmentally friendly as possible: plastic-free tea bags, bamboo personal care items, compostable feminine products, organic shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste, compostable bin liners, a large air fryer, no single-use plastics, recycled kitchen foil, and eco toilet and kitchen rolls.
Local popular landmarks include Lud's Church (a spooky chasm where Druids used to worship), and Hanging Stone also situated on the spectacular gritstone ridge; The Roaches. The views from this ridge are marvelous - north to the impressive high moors, and south across the wooded River Dane valley. A must for walkers and hikers.
The wildlife is varied and includes Red Deer, badgers, Tawny and Barn Owls, hedgehogs, wild pheasants, Red Kite, Buzzards and at least 30 different species of little wild birds - most of which visit our bird feeders!
The Peak Wildlife Park provides fantastic entertainment for adults and children alike, with expert keepers sharing wallaby, penguin, red panda, and giant rabbit experiences. Blaze Farm is a local petting farm, and they make umpteen varieties of fabulous ice cream. The playground at nearby Tittesworth Reservoir has been described as The Best Ever! by our guests children, and their visitors centre/restaurant is excellent.
Water sports are also close by, at Tittesworth and Rudyard Lakes.
Local bistro pubs include the Lazy Trout, The Rose & Crown, Ryles Arms and Sutton Hall - all with outstanding menus catering for vegans to full meatarians.
Buxton is a great Victorian spa town only 8 miles away, and Bakewell is also great for gift shops and of course is home to the famous Bakewell puddings.
