Please also our guide book. Cawood is a friendly village with some great amenities. We have places to eat and shop and its a great location for accessing York and Leeds. It is still very rural; there’s lots of farming nearby and of course we are on the Ouse. Cawood is a very historic village and is allegedly where the story of Humpty Dumpty was based upon. Being so close to York we have a couple of camp sites and so Cawood is popular with tourists. It is a very safe village and locals will make sure you receive a friendly Yorkshire welcome. The road that number 4 sits on has double yellow lines but you can park outside to unload. There is parking at the top of the road and by the riverside, close to the bridge. It is not really a through road, due to a tight bend, so there is no through traffic making it safe and quiet. Cawood is on a bus route that runs from Selby to York. The closest train stations are 10 minutes away in Selby and Church Fenton and are both mainline stations.
