Set in the heart of Alnwick, Joey’s Cottage couldn’t be better placed for exploring one of Northumberland’s most loved market towns. Wander from your doorstep and you’ll find cobbled streets, stone archways and a vibrant mix of independent shops, cafés and pubs all watched over by the spectacular Alnwick Castle, made famous as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films.
Food lovers are spoiled for choice here. Treat yourself to a meal at the Michelin-starred Sonnet restaurant or sample award-winning fare at The Treehouse Restaurant at Alnwick Garden, an unforgettable dining experience set high among the treetops. For something more relaxed, pop into The Dirty Bottles for craft beers and hearty food, or enjoy a lazy brunch at Bari Tea Brewery or The Market Tavern.
Alnwick’s weekly market brings local produce, flowers and artisan crafts to the square, and you’ll find treasures to take home in the many antique and bookshops, including the famous Barter Books, a must-visit housed in an old Victorian railway station.
And when you’re ready to stretch your legs, Northumberland’s coast is just a short drive away. Head to Alnmouth, Warkworth, or Bamburgh for sweeping beaches, sea views and some of the most unspoilt coastal scenery in the UK.
Whether you’re here for history, good food, or just a slower pace of life, Alnwick is the kind of place that draws you in and keeps you coming back.
