Set in two and a half glorious acres, this property is spread over two floors but the two apartments are both entirely self-contained. The accommodation for guests is on the main floor and is accessed by the front-desk. We live in the sous sol apartment below. most of the time, so we can be at hand for help, advice and any tips on the area.
A balcony runs across the entire length of the back of the property offering splendid views over the garden leading down to the river. It's also a great vantage point for observing the local wildlife, red squirrels, birds of prey, kingfishers, woodpeckers and the infamous hoopoe bird. In the early days of summer, the frogs chorus can be clearly heard coming from the banks of the river.
The sun rises at the front of the house enabling you to enjoy your fresh croissants and bread from the local boulangerie on the sunny terrace.
Cliff and I arrived here in the summer of 2018 after taking early retirement. We fell in love with this outstanding property, which is a little more contemporary but still offers all the home comforts and amenities that we were looking for and sincerely think that you will too. Most of our spare time is taken up with maintenance of the extensive garden which you can freely use for you entertainment. We also spend our time looking after our whippet, walking, fishing in the river Clain which flows along the bottom of our garden and of course, practicing the French culinary skills using local produce.
This property will appeal to anybody wishing to escape from suburbia as it is nestled in the peaceful countryside approximately one mile from the village. It is surrounded by trees and fields, a tranquil haven to escape from it all. The village offers a boulangerie, post office, bar / tabac, tapas bar, pizzeria, restaurant, 12th century church, general store and a picturesque lake. All this is about a ten minute walk along a country lane.
The nearest town is Confolens, (ten minutes by car), nestled on the banks of the river Vienne. Here you will find two large supermarkets, a pharmacy, along with a good selection of cafes and restaurants.
The Val due Vienne motor racing circuit is also ten minutes away by car where regular events are held throughout the summer, including the famous Ferrari weekend at the beginning of June.
Kayaking is available both on the Vienne and the Charente. This is a great activity for all the family. You can even take your own picnic and stop on the river bank.
There are numerous animal parks including The Vallee des Singes where you can walk among the primates.
Why not try the Velo rail which is also based in Confolens, another great family day out.
