{The house has air conditioning, and because of its thick stone walls, the house stays very cool, even during hot afternoons. But please note that during the winter months, the house's thick stone walls also mean that it takes a day or two to warm up, so very short stays are not recommended in the winter.)
Hello! Warm greetings from the San Francisco Bay area. We are the Taylors and we're delighted that you're considering our beautiful home near Sarlat for your stay in France. Nestled in the picturesque Dordogne region, it’s a place very close to our hearts. My husband and I are both hardworking professionals, and our regular lives are here in California. We've been blessed with two amazing teenagers who keep us on our toes. Our French retreat near Sarlat is where we escape to whenever we need a break from our busy lives, to reconnect with each other, friends, and family, and immerse ourselves in the rich culture and history of the region. Being passionate travelers ourselves, we understand the importance of feeling at home while being away. That’s why we've done our best to ensure our house provides not just comfort, but also a touch of the local charm. We truly hope that, during your stay, you’ll create cherished memories and share the love and warmth we feel every time we visit.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the property, or need recommendations in the area. Our property manager lives nearby and can help with any issues or questions you might have. (It's a quirky old house, so please don’t attempt to fix anything on your own. We have local service professionals who take care of everything!)
We want your experience to be as delightful as our own adventures have been.
The vacation house is a 5 minute walk to the Dordogne River on a true country lane in a neighborhood called Limejouls, steps from the Dordogne bike trail to Bordeaux. Our closest town is Saint-Julien-de-Lampon just 4km away, with its market, boulangerie/patisserie, pub, tabac, church, post office, and 2 kayak and bicycle rental places.
There are a few other stone houses dotted around us, but you can’t see them from our property (maybe if you peek through trees or stand on your toes). It’s a mix of other vacation homes and old local family homes that are similarly private.
Car or bicycle. Plenty of parking in the big gravel driveway. The bicycle path that runs along the Dordogne from here to Bordeaux (and the spur to Sarlat) is 1 minute from the house.
