We created this apartment as a place of relaxation for ourselves. We are proud to share with you 1) Abundance of natural light 2) Authenticity and respect for the history 3) Comfort with subtle flavours of luxury and comfort 4) Personal well-being and relaxation Burgstraat 17 is an old Patrician house constructed in 1515. Later the house was split in 2 houses and became neglected for many years. In 2019 we started the renovation, with as only purpose, to keep the soul and respect the history and grandeur of the original house. Its exceptional history, unique architecture and central position made it worth doing so. Tears, joy and a lot of work resulted in the place where you are right now. We hope you enjoy and respect this place as much as we do. The accomodation is located in the car free centre, in the middle of many romantic restaurants , typical bars, historical buildings such as the Gravensteen, Korenmarkt, Graslei, .... and the shopping area. We believe that the energy a house gives to its habitants consist of all energies that this house received in the past and…. will receive in the future. We try to enjoy life, respect all living beings and make sure every day is one to remember. This by making sure not every day is the same, by being open for other mindsets and visions, by caring and respecting our own and others boundaries. Our mantra can be seen in the elevator of the house :-)
During the Middle Ages, Ghent was one of the richest and most powerful cities in Europe. It was once considered the second largest city north of the Alps, after Paris. The impact of this rich past can be clearly seen when viewing the imposing architecture of churches and the houses of rich traders. The whole of the city center is restored in this fashion, and still breathes the atmosphere of a thriving late-medieval city state. As the city council made the center free of cars, it is now a very welcoming and open area, which does not fail to impress even the people who live there. Unlike Leuven, another university town in Flanders, youth is not the only category of people living there. There is an interesting mixture of foreigners who came to live there, or artists, among the native people of Ghent. This mixture makes the people more tolerant and open-minded. This atmosphere seeps into every aspect of city life more than the smaller provincial cities or the bigger city of Antwerp. The Facility situates in the middle of the historical centre. We also have a private E-parking spot which is rare in the center. Steps and bikes (paid service) are available to discover the wider area
