Welcome to the Orangerie: a central, spacious garden studio in a peaceful neighbourhood, a short drive or walking distance to the city and waterfront. Newly completed in modern farmhouse style, this lovely light space has a queen sized bed, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful bathroom and a large sunny deck. You will have everything you need for your visit to Hobart! Underfloor heating and a heat pump will keep you cosy during winter, and you can enjoy the sunny outdoor space all year round.
The Orangerie is in the back garden of the main house, with separate access and full private use of the back garden and deck area. It is a spacious open-plan studio with a separate bathroom. Depending on the season, you can help yourself to lemons, herbs, apples, figs, raspberries, blueberries and boysenberries in the garden. Guests have full, exclusive access to the Orangerie (with the exception of the locked cupboard space), deck and back garden. The laundry (under the main house) and washing line area are shared spaces. The small garden shed by the main house is not for guest access.
PRIVACY: Your privacy is ensured with blinds and window frosting where needed, however the studio has skylights and does not have block out curtains. This stay is not suitable for those who require complete darkness.
PARKING: Off street parking is available on request (just let us know you are bringing your car before you arrive). There is also free on-street parking.
DOGS: Two small dogs live in the main house. They will not have access to the back garden during your stay, but at times, when outside, you may hear them in the front garden, or in the house. As the studio is a new build, it is quite sound-proof, and you shouldn’t hear the dogs while inside.
LAUNDRY: There is a full laundry under the main house, and a washing line outside the back door of the main house. These are the only shared spaces for your stay. Let us know if you have washing to do.
We (Katharine and Peter) are parents to two teenagers and two miniature sausage dogs. We have hosted guests at our cabin on Bruny Island for nearly 5 years, and have loved sharing this piece of paradise with guests from around Tasmania, Australia, and beyond. We are excited to now also be able to share the Orangerie, our new space in Hobart, with guests from far and wide.
As well as enjoying the Bruny Island fresh air and bird watching, our other interests include family time, playing hockey and real tennis, and travelling.
We might be available person during your stay at times, but are happy to leave you to it if you'd prefer - your privacy is important to us. We can always be reached by phone or email.
It’s a 2 minute walk to the local IGA, Ginger Brown cafe, the Cascade Hotel and Bottle Shop and South Wine Bar. Within another 5 minutes you’ll find the South Hobart shops, including the Hill Street Grocer, cafes, a whole foods store, post office, pharmacy, butcher, vegetarian and vegan friendly modern Asian restaurant, antiques store, florist, hairdresser and beauty salon.
The Hobart Rivulet track, which can be accessed nearby, is a peaceful pathway into the city (about 25 minutes walk) where you could spot the elusive platypus! This path, in the other direction, leads to the Cascades Female Factory, pretty Cascade Gardens and the Cascade Brewery & Bar.
