The LongHouse was designed by architect Nathan Crump (Hobart based) and was finished being built in 2023. It is situated just out of Cygnet and has the most spectacular views over Port Cygnet and the countryside.
You can walk into the lovely arts and crafts town of Cygnet, drive to various outstanding local restaurants, or stay at home and soak in all the house has to offer.
The space
The whole feel of The Long House is Japanese design meeting mid century design. Charred timber cladding and maple trees in the courtyard give the Japanese feel. Clean lines and the use of frameless corner windows coupled with the stacked brick fireplace give it the midcentury feel.
Accommodation wise The Long House is divided into three parts. The house incorporates the kitchen, dining/living and king bedroom with its own ensuite with luxurious corner bath. Studio 1 (middle) is a queen sized bedroom with its own stylish bathroom with shower and Studio 2 (end) has king bed (or splits to two singles), kitchen, its own fireplace and shower with double shower heads.
These seperate spaces make it perfect for weekends away with friends or grown family. Children under 12 or pets are not permitted to stay.
The kitchen is very well stocked with all you need for your stay including a double oven and drawer dishwashers. In the butlers pantry you will find the Nespresso coffee machine, a soda stream and the microwave along with a pretty well stocked pantry. No need to bring your cooking oils etc to this place.
For sleeping purposes there are remote controlled black out blinds on all windows in the bedrooms/studios. Wake up and open them all from the comfort of your bed. Bathrooms have underfloor heating for additional guest comfort.
In winter you have a choice of fireplaces. Enjoy to the double sided fire place from the living room and then outside on the deck. If you want more of an outdoor feel there is an outdoor fire pit at the end of the house, a fabulous place to star gaze from.
Hey there, I live in Tassie part time and work up in Sydney for rest of time. The Long House is my home and a place I love returning to as much as I can. This is not a business, it's me sharing my house when I'm not there.
The Long House is within walking distance to the lovely arts and crafts town of Cygnet. About a 15min walk into town (2mins by car) and a 20min walk back (it's up hill). Cygnet has a couple of great eateries, Red Velvet Lounge and The Old Bank, along with a number of arts and crafts shops to explore.
Further afield is Bruny Island - a day trip from The Long House (approx 25mins to Kettering for the ferry).
There are numerous wineries to explore and Hobart is approx 45 miins away.
