Nature & Sightseeing • Brown Lake (Bummiera) – A tranquil tea-tree-stained lake with soft sand perfect for a picnic and swim. o Insider Tip: Take the sand track past the main car park for secluded swimming spots. • Naree Budjong Djara National Park – Scenic bushwalks to places like Blue Lake (Kaboora). • Gorge Walk (Point Lookout) – A must-do! Spot whales (June-Nov), dolphins, rays, and eagles. • North Stradbroke Island (NSI) Historical Museum (Dunwich) – fascinating self-guided history trail. • Koala & Kangaroo Spotting – Check out Yabby St, Amity near Toopany St, or the Gorge Walk. • Dolphins at Amity Point – Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphins frequent the shoreline. Beaches & Water Activities • Surf & Swim – Cylinder Beach and South Gorge (best in different winds – check the WillyWeather app). • Beach Walks – Stroll along 32km of pristine coastline at Main Beach. • Kayaking & Snorkeling – Explore Straddie’s crystal-clear waters with guided tours. The best beaches for small kids • Dunwich - Adams Beach (South of ferry landing), the Dunwich Foreshore enclosure or Lady Loch. All are calm shallow warm waters (best on a high tide). Addar Beach and Main Beach (when patrolled by the Surf Lifesavers). • Amity – Amity enclosure, also calm water. Local Shops Dunwich has most of what you will need in the way of shops including a supermarket, pharmacy, butcher, bakery, fruit shop, post office, cafes and take away eateries. However shops close early on Straddie with most shutting at 5pm Mon-Friday and some (chemist and butcher) close midday Saturday and closed Sunday. There are exceptions including: • Foodworks supermarket open 7 days 6:30am-5:30pm weekdays; closes at 5pm on weekends. • SPAR supermarket which is open 7 days a week 7:00am–7:00pm.
