Poss' Place is situated on the Bass Highway but backs onto the estuary of the Detention River. In the summer you can walk across the sand to the beach when the tide is out. It is safe for kayaking, fishing and swimming. The area is a popular holiday spot but we live here and love it. There are two shops and the Rocky Cape Tavern serves up tasty meals. They will even pick you up and drop you off. Take a day trip to Arthur River, Stanley or Dip Falls, or simply relax. The garden is full of vegies, fruit and herbs in season and guests are welcome to pick what they need for cooking purposes. Poss' Place is a real home away from home! There are no big supermarkets close by. The closest are Wynyard 25 minutes away or Smithton, 30 minutes away. Stanley has a small IGA supermarket. We have wifi access and limited mobile coverage. We are amenable to small dogs but please ask before you come so we may plan for your stay. There is no bath. The second room has a double bunk, which may not suit adult guests. The cottage caters for 4 people but we have a mattress for a 3rd child if necessary. We supply a complimentary snack and drinks on arrival but please bring your own breakfast.
We are Victoria and Richard Cochrane and we live next door. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable all you need to do is ask!
Our address is Hellyer but the house is on the Bass Hwy at Detention River. We do get heavy traffic noise through weekdays. We are approximately 30 minutes from Stanley and Smithton, 25 minutes from Wynyard and 45 minutes west of Burnie. The two general stores sell take away food and basic groceries. The tavern is open 7 days a week and serves counter meals for lunch and dinner. The beach and river are suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking.
