Simon lives on the Gold Coast and his business partner, Kate, is a Townsville local. We both love staying at Maggie with our respective families. We fell in love with this place and decided we needed to share it. There is so much to see and do on this beautiful island, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We will try and help you with anything we can if possible. Life is an adventure, let’s enjoy it!
Magnetic Island is one of those charming places that has special 'Island Time'. It is one of the only Great Barrier Reef islands to have a postcode and 4 villages. Nelly Bay (where you arrive on the ferry); Picnic Bay; Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay is home to around 2000 people. We would really recommend the Forts Walk. You can get there by bus - it's on the road to Horseshoe Bay at the Radical Bay turnoff. and over the 3/4 of an hour walk you are almost guaranteed to see a koala in the wild. It also has the best preserved fortification from WWII on the eastern seaboard. There are lots of walks as three quarters of the island is national park. Horseshoe Bay is the best for water activities and Picnic Bay is a beautiful quieter spot. Balding Bay (walk from Horseshoe Bay) is only accessible by boat and is also one of our favourites. Eating out: Man Friday in Nelly Bay does great enchiladas and other cuisine and both the pubs at Horseshoe and Picnic are usually good.
SOS Fish and chips from the shopping complex in Nelly on the corner of Mandalay Ave and Sooning Street highly recommended.
