The centrally located Rock Solid Backpackers Rotorua offers free WiFi, a neighboring rock-climbing wall and a spacious guest lounge including a tour desk, a billiards table and a cinema. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The kitchen and shared common spaces gave lots of space for different groups to hang out instead of being confined to your room which was nice. It was fairly easy to get to the highway and there is a grocery store within about a 10 minute walk. We didn't get a chance to check it out but it looked like the area had some night life as well as parks.

Rotorua Downtown Backpackers is a modern hostel is located in the heart of Rotorua across the road from the I-Site and major bus lines. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the location is superb—it's easy to get to from the bus stop and is close to the city center. The facilities and rooms are clean and guests enjoy free coffee, tea, and also paper towels! Best of all, it's very reasonably priced. If you're planning a longer stay, be sure to ask the staff about their discount options.

Iya at the reception was very friendly , she also gave me a good orientation of the place and attended to my needs for laundry. Smoke Lake Hot Springs Lodge and Camp is in the heart of Rotorua on the edge of the famous Kuirau Geothermal Park. We are a family run business and have been here for 38 years. Hot pool was open until late. The cabin was clean, toilet was really nice, also the heater was good to have for the cold weather. They have a pool table which is pretty cool and a free simple, but nice breakfast. Location was the best, walking distance every where!
