Lee Abbey was part of my life, since I am an ex-community member (2009/10). The place has passed through a huge reform, it now looks much more confortable, they even have toilets in some rooms (608 basement). The staff is friendly and the atmosphere stills warm and nice, the food package is also good.

Set within beautiful Bloomsbury neighbourhood in a peaceful part of London, Astor Museum is a Georgian mansion which provides perfect accommodation for educational holidays close to the British Museum. From ancient stones to modern communications and art, Bloomsbury is a location with stories to tell. The hostel is perfectly positioned for accessing some scenic walking routes nearby with excellent local and national public transport links. Explore famous locations like Covent Garden, Oxford Street (the Selfridges, John Lewis), a leasure walk from High Holborn to Waterloo. Astor Museum has comfortable, airy rooms (ask for upper floors), a beautifully equipped kitchen with an outside sitting area, cozy living room (has a potential to have an outside patio as well), clean bathrooms and absolutely amazing, fun and warm hearted stuff, that could be a perfect cast for a new TV show. Special thanks to Mr. Giles Beattie - his emotional intelligence, hard-working attitude and impeccable manners for sure make him a super valuable accet to become a General Manager of any 5* hotel. Ask Tristan about New Zealand and London theatres, Alex - about Australia and hiking in Richmond, James - about trendy London clubs. The ladies from the stuff are just pure love and care, always checking up on your comfort and needs. The Manager will provide you with an astrology insite every Wednesday during his famous evening workshop. There are many other events for everyone, too. Enjoy!)

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel for 3 weeks. The staff is lovely, the beds are comfy, the location is super convenient. The hostel makes sure to organize enough activities that encourage you to interact with fellow travellers and the staff. For instance, Family Dinner is when the staff cooks food for anyone who signs up, and the low price of 4 pounds is so worth the DELICIOUS food. There's also Cocktail Night with unbeatable prices and vibes, and Movie Night which is free and a really fun bonding experience. The hostel itself allows for all these activities and more to happen comfortably, there's designated areas for pretty much any mood, from very quiet to very social. And it does, truly, feel like home. This is no minor issue: the temperature and pressure of the water in the showers is ideal. Makes the daunting process of taking a hostel shower significantly easier. The toilets are in great shape too, which admittedly is something I've seen mentioned a lot in past reviews, and it was a big reason for my choice. I'm pleased to report the reviews were right. The staff and volunteers are wonderful enough that they deserved their own paragraph in my review. Helpful and kind, also friendly and very approachable. Funny too, which is always a plus. They have great taste in music which makes the hangout spaces an even better experience. It really does feel like a family, at least it did from my perspective. I'm really gonna miss them.

This is a great location, and the hostel doesn't really claim to be more than a cheap place to stay, which it is. There's nothing really special about it as far as hostels go - but it is clean, safe and not too noisy, which is all you really need! I stayed in a ladies only room, and there was a private bathroom and shower attached.

Great atmosphere; all staff are very friendly, keep the bathrooms and kitchen areas spotless and do their best to accommodate your needs. They also regularly organise evening events at cheap bars/clubs across London, so if you're solo-travelling, you'll have tons of opportunities to meet new people. Definitely, the best hostel I've ever stayed in; would 100% consider staying there the next time I'm in London!
