If you dont want to walk, there is a 7/11 right next door, or there is the possibility to buy food and coffee at the place. If I come back to Takayama I would choose to stay here again

Our host, Assi, was waiting for us at the property and was very accommodating. Speaking very good English and showing us all the facilities of this very beautifully restored traditional Japanese house. The house is made very comfortable with excellent home-style kitchen and living room, both supplied with high quality vinyl and CD sound systems. He suggested an excellent restaurant run by a man and his wife that was equally homely and with very good food. There is also a very cool vinyl cafe close-by that would not be out of place in Brooklyn New York. We were very nicely surprised by our stay at Guesthouse SHIGI and would recommend anyone detours a few minutes from the Nakasendo Trail to experience something truly special.

Each room is equipped with a terrace with garden views and free WiFi. The rooms were very nice and clean. There was access to washing machines (paid), and other necessary ammenities.

This apartment provides free private parking and a shared kitchen. The apartment features family rooms as well as facilities for disabled guests. The owner is super nice kind and lovely!! We came wet from the rain and he helped me dry my shoes with special dryer, he gave us to use bikes (with electric assistant) for free, there is a parking space close to the guesthouse but the owner also provide shuttle to center Takayama - so also it is far from the center (about 30 min walk), with the bikes and the shuttle it didn't feel this way. The kitchen was equipped, and the owner gave us bottles of water and didn't let us pay! He is a very sweet guy and we had a really good experience in this guesthouse that was also very very clean and affordable!!

Peaceful, clean and such a great example of ryokan hospitality in rural Japan. Toki is an exceptional host who warmed our hearts with friendly and loving care - using google translate we had alot of laughs. You are a very special person Toki and definitely a highlight of our trip. Toki was very helpful with organising things with and for us and Iwamura is a beautiful quiet town with no westerners.
