I have been here eleven times, which must show that I like it very much. I have been here summer and winter as well. I mostly hike to Lapporten and Trollsjoen. On the other hand, I am not a fan of Kungsleden, which for me is a motorway for pedestrians.

Abisko e a beautiful place to watch the Northern Lights! It's a fantastic place to get some fresh breeze and enjoy the nature. The STF National Park is also a place to add in your list to visit. Safe to solo travelers. Very close to good spots and another countries.

Abisko is a perfect destination for having a good chance of getting to see the Northern Lights. The geographical location and the climatic conditions make it a perfect location for witnessing the magic of the Aurora Borealis. A trip to the Abisko Sky Station is definitely worth a visit. The view from the top is phenomenal! If you happen to be there up north on a near full moon day and you get lucky to see the Northern Lights, you will find it hard not be satisfied with what you experience!

Best place to see the Northern Lights.

Best place to see the Northern Lights. Abisko only has limited accommodations so there's guarantee that the place will never be overcrowded. Transportation is very difficult and you must book everything in advance. Eating options include the restaurants at the hotels, kitchen in hostels. There's 2 places where you can buy your groceries - Godisfabriken and the shop in the Abisko Tourist Station. Other than that, you go to Kiruna or Narvik (which are pretty far)

We traveled to Abisko in the winter and so there wasn't much daylight, but there were quite a number of guided tours available (aurora viewing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, etc.). I'm sure it would be great in the summer months for hiking and other outdoor activities. There was only one restaurant in town but it was very good.

Winter trip:

Winter trip: Best location we visited between Norway and Sweden for viewing the Auroras. We finally found success here, when all the apps were saying there was no chance of success. Abisko made everywhere else seem like a tourist trap. There is very little light pollution here, and we saw more stars than I have seen since I was a child. There is a grocery store if you need anything. You can travel by train or by car. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do, and you are provided with proper cold weather gear for every activity. If you want to do something on your own, you can rent equipment as needed. There are only a few places to eat, so book in advance.

the kitchen is well equipped with dishes and cooking tools, but there are no basics such as cooking oil and stuff like that. the location is about 5-10 minutes walk from the train station and a walking distance from the grocery store, a bit too far from the national park (30 minutes walk) but a nice walking distance to dark location at night to see the aurora.

We stayed in superior double bedroom ! It was spacious and very comfortable room. The bathroom is a bit outdated but it was fine for one night stay. They have a sauna facility which is free to use. The breakfast had decent varieties. The views from the property are mind blowing. The national park is at the door steps.

Tidy guesthouse, convenient location on the way from Finland to Norway. The area is very beautiful and Abisko National Park is only a couple kilometers away. For one night stay it was totally fine for three people.
