I went there to scuba dive and Madelena is a perfect location between two excellent Dive Shops: CWAzores and Twin Peaks. I recommend O Cinco for food. Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 8.0

Madelena is a small town but with a few good restaurants and bathing places. It is right under Pico mountain. Access to Pico is very proximate There is an interesting coastal walk heading out of the town and great examples of the lava stone enclosures where the vines are grown. Really good location if you don't have a car.
Really good location if you don't have a car. Really close to the airport and ferry terminal with plenty restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance. If you're planning on climbing Pico, then having a bit of spare time is a good idea, as the weather may mean you have to change the date. I had not been back to Pico Island since 1998 during the year of the earthquake in the Azores. Since that time the Azores has certainly become quite different but in a positive way. This is a small quaint village that offers you all of the modern comforts to explore the beauty that is The Azores. Despite the modern amenities it still keeps it's old world charm.
