Alvor is a fairly small resort, made up of a series of small fairly narrow walkways that are lined with the various restaurants, bars, and small shops. Most of the streets / walkways lead down to the seafront where you find the main three or four fish restaurants, that cook up the catch if the day, for the hundreds of locals, and tourists that decend into the area each evening. Alvor is very family friendly, there are no hen or Stagg parties, and no groups of people singing their favourite football chant from the outside of bars. There are families walking round of an evening, deciding where to eat enjoying their break away, removed from the normal treadmill of life. What I liked most was O Gadys Pub. Ana Gourmet Ana Esteves was very helpful. We visted in the 90's it was beautiful small village. This time it looked tired in places. Beautiful board walk at the end of that walk at the harbour a soccer pitch play area it was all over grown and Graffiti on the wall looked awful also at end of the village coming from Alvo golf come to a roundabout grass all overgrown looks very poor for a tourist village. Room was like a large modern Apartment with all the mod cons. Breakfast was very tasty with a variety of hot food and delicious pastries.Pool area is so tranquil and restful that we actually spent a lot of time at it,something we rarely do on holidays. Extremely good value for our weeks stay. We had previously stayed at the sister hotel, Pestana Dom João II, but the Alvor Park Hotel was far superior in all respects. The rooms are much larger, more modern and the hotel is much quieter. Unless you're deperate for a beach side property which the Dom João provides, the Alvor Park is a far better place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
