We didn't plan any activities in Balestrand, so for a short stay it was amazing, the town has what you would need though if you have a longer stay, but that would certainly require better planning for activities to visit surrounding areas and Fjords...

This place is a gem. Peaceful and beautiful appointed.

This place is a gem. Peaceful and beautiful appointed. It exceeded expectations. My family and I didn't want to leave! We enjoyed the breakfast and dinners, the food is exceptional. It's close to trails, so plenty of exploring to do. The views and property is so lovely it is just as enticing to stay in and enjoy the space. It is on our dream list to return. It is a trek to go to Balestrand if you don't have a car, however, the hotel offers a shuttle if you plan ahead. This was a concern prior to getting there as we didn't have a car, however, once there we didn't want to leave so it worked out.

We stayed in Balestrand on a Sunday, so our experience could be very different than a stay on a normal day. Everything was easily within walking distance from our hotel stay at Kringsja (a quirky little hotel full of charm). It was quiet and peaceful. Be sure to have dinner at Baalee Restaurant. In our 10 day road trip through Norway with (6) stops - this was the best meal we had. My family of (4) had different dishes and all were top notch. The proprietor clearly cares about quality and comfort - she was great! Great views all around and be sure to visit St. Olaf's church and sign the guestbook!

The tourist info center needs to clarify communications.

The tourist info center needs to clarify communications. some sites say boats are running when they are not. we always seemed to be a day behind when trying to schedule excursions. that was a frustration. your map of the villsge, while artistic, was hard to read. a traditional map is needed. food-fantadtic and friendly.

It's a lovely hotel, very basic, but the rooms are lovely and the access to the fjord, with the sauna and fire pit by the water is lovely. And they allow pets. I loved seeing the other guests' dogs. (Travelling there from USA couldn't bring my dog but enjoyed the company of other guests' dogs!)

I'm glad we chose to spend even 1 extra day in the fjord country. It's an easy ferry ride from Flam, and so much more peaceful and quiet than the tourist frenzy in Flam, so I'm very glad we got to experience it. I wish we had more than one night there, but it is a very small town and there isn't a whole lot to do. We could've stayed longer and done some hiking. We tried to do the Balestrand Aquarium, but it was a Sunday, so either opened late, or just didn't open that day, so we didn't see it. A local, however, told us that it's under new ownership and not much of an aquarium anymore. I would've loved to have seen what type of wildlife actually inhabits the fjords, so was a little disappointed not to see whatever aquarium was there. We did splurge on the buffet dinner at the Kviknes hotel. It is a beautiful hotel with a beautiful view, but I was disappointed in the food, especially for the price. For example, the cheese selections were not tasty. I appreciate that they keep to traditional and local Norwegian foods, but while there was a lot of variety, some of it wasn't very good. I had been looking forward to some delicious Norwegian cheese on tasty bread, and was disappointed. The bread was just bread, nothing outstanding. I did love the salmon and the bread pudding. I had read many other reviews that raved about the food. Maybe on our night, the selection just didn't suit my palette, so if it is something that appeals to you, do try it. I am glad we did. The city itself is small, so easily walkable, and we enjoyed strolling on the quiet streets and seeing the Viking burial mounds. I had communicated with Balestrand Adventures about renting bikes to explore more of the area, but our timing just didn't work out. They seem to have lots of other activities that may be worth checking out. Another full day for us would have been ideal, so don't cut yourself too short on time in this beautiful town.

The house has a very beautiful location: it is very peaceful, in the middle of nature, with a beautiful view on the fjord - and still less than a 10 minute drive to Balestrand city. The house itself had all facilities we needed, and has a personal character. The owners are very friendly and helpful, communication is easy. We definitely recommend staying here. Good to know: in order to get to the house, you have to drive up a steep hill / mountain.

Gorgeous view! Buffet is excellent and so is the staff at the restaurant. I’d also recommend lunch at the bar. The lounges were elegant and perfect for relaxing with a coffee in the evening. While the room price was expensive, I found the cost of food and drinks to not be overpriced. We had a really nice stay and it’s worthwhile to experience the beauty of this hotel and the surroundings.

The location of the hotel looking over Sognefjord is priceless. The hotel is charming. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The owner was very helpful, he offered to take our bags to the boat terminal and insisted we had breakfast before we left first for the 7.50 am, boat to Bergen. The breakfast was nice.
