Wassenaar is clearly an affluent area of NL.
Wassenaar is clearly an affluent area of NL. My Dad likened it to the Mayfair of Den Haag. Huge, beautiful houses and clean/quiet streets. Local shops are efficient and easy to find and the beach is great during the warmer months. Our highlight, and main reason for our first visit (of many) over 10 years ago, was Duinrell. Rooms are - typical vd Valk - far above market standard spacious. Sufficient and free car and bicycle parking spaces. Good food and very pleasant and attentive service in the restaurant. The rooms were very quiet except the shaking wall - see below. Big monitors were placed in the large restaurant to allow customers to watch European Championship football matches. There is no parking or electric vehicle charging at the property or on the road the property is on so be aware this has to be found outside the central permit parking zone. The stairs are VERY steep, more like a ladder as you need to come down backwards so not suitable for anyone with any mobility issues. The outdoor terrace was perfect for an early evening beer. Reception staff were fabulous - they were kind and came across as being proud of the hotel. We had a free upgrade to a suite so had a separate living/dining space in addition to a huge bedroom and fantstic bathroom - can't remember a hotel with such good water pressure and instant hot water!
