Nice old village in Texel, with a lots of programs in the haven like shrimp fishing and seal spotting. Also some good restaurants, bike renting opportunities, walking on the seashore… great place to relax and be away from the everyday hamsterwheel. Of the four larger villages on Texel, Oudeschild is the quieter one and it has the additional benefit of the quite busy harbour where you can take seal watching or crab fishing tours, or simply enjoy the views of the large and small sail ships passing through. The maritime Kaap Skil museum is definitely worth a longer visit. The highlight is a very large interactive exhibition in the basement (that took more than 4 years to build) with detailed info about the role of the island in the golden age, the great Dutch ships and life on the island back in that day, including a massive VR installation and ship models of incredible detail. Outside the main building you walk through a 17th/18th century village with original workshops and living quarters, including a large windmill that is still operational today (you can buy locally milled flour there).Guest review byStefanGermany

Oudeschild is a lovely little harbour town. Good restaurants ('t Pakhuus is amazing). Counted four different providers of seal spotting boat tours.
