Ella is a wonderful place to explore. It’s very clean and has breathtaking views everywhere. The people are kind, the local food is amazing, and it’s perfect for families, friends, or groups. We loved the Mountain View’s.
We loved the Mountain View’s. The Main Street is a little crowded and all of the walkways are uneven. Everything is on a hill and there is a lot of walking . Stairs do not have handrails. The sites to see in the city are not easily accessible without transportation. Tuk tuk rides are very bumpy. Most of the tourists in the city are young . As an older traveler over 70, I would not recommend this location to an older adult unless you are very healthy and have good stamina for walking, heat, and bumpy rides.Guest review byLeonardUnited States - 10

Ella is in the mountains so there is a lot of walking and lots of stairs and climbing. We saw young back packers as the majority of visitors. It was hot and humid so drinking water was very important. The tea plantation tour was good and informative. The arches trip involved a harrowing drive up a narrow bumpy road. The amazing and perfect nature around Ella is getting over exploited. Too many buildings (hotels in particular) are under construction in the delicate hills of Ella, they should protect the environment as the place will loose its magic if it becomes just some kind of shopping mall / tourist centre. Owner is helpful and is making sure that his guests feel like at home. Breakfast was tasty, coffee, water and tea can be delivered to the room. Hotel is a good place for sunrise hike to Ella Rock (it took us 1.5h to get to the top from the hotel on foot). Ask for cooking classes - owner's mom is a very talented chef and can teach you how to cook Sri Lankan dishes. Amazing experience and great people!Guest review byMateuszPoland

Chaminda was very informative on local sites and services. Maridian Hotel is out of town but we had our own transportation, so this wasn’t a problem. There was also a bus that stopped directly out the front of the property which takes you into Bandarawela and the train station. Breakfast was plentiful, and changed daily. The view is amazing!
