Safer than the last time I went to Guatemala - about 25 yrs ago- . A lot of non tourist places to explore. Beautiful country side. The only tourist area I explored were Antigua, lake atitlan, Flores which are well suited for tourist, with all the services they might desire. Other parts of the country some level of spanish is required. I spent 7 months traveling mostly northern part of Guatemala, only seeing a fraction of what the country has to offer to travelers.

    Guatemala is beautiful.

Guatemala is beautiful. Its weather is usually nice and cozy during the summer months but this time it was a little warmer than usual, but with climate change, that is not surprising. Strangely enough, I did not find its people as friendly and warm as they usually are. I hadnt been to Guatemala in ~10 years and I had been going there for the last 25+ years so that was a remarkable difference. It is very commercialized with vast amenities. We frequent Guatemala for its medical facilities and medical attention. You get the best of the best doctors there, many trained in Europe. The medical attention is top notch and you can afford it. The restaurants are great; a vast selection if you like food. All in all, I love Guatemala. It is a beautiful getaway that is just a stone's throw away from us.

When you travel in Guatemala, you return home feeling like...

When you travel in Guatemala, you return home feeling like you visited a magical place. The trick is in finding the itinerary and destinations for your pace. Since you can travel cheaply, or you can stay in incredibly luxurious places. The history is immense and the cultural fabric is as complex and colorful as the local fabrics. I recommend hiring a driver for your airport and destination transfers. Explore the bookstores and cafés in the historic center of Guatemala City- that was a complete surprise and delight. Temperatures can range from cold in the volcanoes to hot and humid in the jungle. Prepare to barter in the markets, and have an idea of how much you want to pay. Guatemalans are a friendly and polite people whose beautiful traditions are just part of the magic you'll take home with you.

Lovely charming people, awesome food, stunning natural, Mayan, and colonial beauty. Much more temperate than I had expected - comfortable. No safety concerns at all (and I travelled exclusively by 'chicken' bus)

    I absolutely loved Guatemala!

I absolutely loved Guatemala! So many people told me to be careful as they heard bad things about this country. The couldn't have been more wrong, the people are so genuine and kind, the food is delicious, the culture is awesome, and the weather couldn't be better! I loved Anitgua, Chichi market, and all of the villages on Lake Atitlan! Everyone knows someone who can give you a ride so finding transport is never hard, and the nature and hiking was amazing! Keep in mind, when I travel I love being out sunrise to sunset, so I was never out at night! I couldn't recommend visiting this country more!

This hotel is a small green oasis where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle of Guatemala City. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. One of the highlights is the rooftop terrace — the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious breakfast in the morning or a bite to eat in the evening. We stayed here after a late arrival at the airport and loved it so much that we booked it again for the night before our flight home. Highly recommended.

I liked that it had a kitchen where you could cook and loved the terrace too. We had a private bathroom and that was great too. The location was good and the staff super friendly. If you’re passing by Guatemala City, it’s worth staying here. We felt super comfortable. Also there are some bars and terraces just across the street and a supermarket. It’s close to the airport as well.

A middle-sized hotel in a quiet corner of Zona 10 in Guatemala City. The hotel is built in colonial style and the interior of the rooms is also kept in a colonial style, but the rooms are not as dark as other hotels of similar type. The hotel staff is exceptionally accommodating and fulfills even the most unusual requests. Overall, one of the best hotels in Guatemala City.

Villa Toscana is a lovely place to stay. I needed to be near the airport during my trip and this was the perfect spot. It is in a secure, gated community in Guatemala City with a very attentive and helpful staff. The garden area downstairs is perfect for reading a book, relaxing or for taking breakfast. By the way, the breakfast included is fantastic.

This was the perfect place to stay for an early morning wake up to the airport in Guatemala City. We arrived in the early evening and the people who worked there helped us book a taxi and we had a lovely and reasonably priced meal. Bed was exceptionally comfortable!
