Lovely town and not changed too much over the years I have been visiting. Lots of restaurants, tour companies and souvenir shops. Good bus service into Rethymno. This was the second time my wife and I have been to Platanes. We went for the first time a few years ago and thought it was about time we went back. We enjoyed our visit then but this visit was even better. There is a variety of accommodation available from luxury 5 stars hotels to small apartments and a great variety in between. Many residences have pools but there are golden beaches within a short distance of the main strip and many have tavernas and bars. The main strip has many places to eat and drink and prices are very reasonable. Crete has a great cultural heritage and there are plenty of trips which can be taken. It's great that they don't have many rooms so the beach and pool area was never crowded, that was a big plus for us! It has its own beach which is nice but keep in mind that it's quite rocky and you'll definitely need some sea shoes.
