As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. Beautiful historic town with some great pubs and places to eat. Lots of good walks along the river side to other villages all with the backdrop of the iconic railway viaduct (if you're lucky, you might see the Flying Scotsman or Sir Nigel Gresley in steam crossing it). There's a wide range of good places to stay too - from the stunning Crathorne Hall to the quirky but lovely self-catering Yarm Cottages (which have the bonus of being next to the Fox Covert pub and restaurant - highly recommended. Yarm is a lovely, historic town - a delight in it's own right, with many very good restaurants and welcoming pubs. The cobbled streets, viaduct and bridge over the tees have some nice walks too - very picturesque. Beautifully built, very comfortable rooms, bed was great. Lovely shower room. Staff were so friendly and breakfast fantastic.
