Wakefield is the perfect place to stay while exploring Yorkshire, with great transport links and all the modern conveniences in a walkable town centre. People are friendly and helpful and there is always something to do or see in Wakefield, including great nights out and two wonderful art galleries. Leeds and Bradford within easy reach, as are two national parks, York for a day trip and many other destinations. It's a transport hub, so you could even leave the car at home. As a base, there is a real range of restaurants available as well as leisure activities and a famous night life. There's also an excellent range of places to stay to fit all budgets and circumstances.

Although Wakefield is not a pretty town to walk around, it is definitely worth visiting for two excellent art institutions - The Hepworth Wakefield (wonderful museum opened in 2011 - beautiful building, excellent collection and temporary exhibitions; and as a bonus - very good cafe) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park - a huge territory with sculptures/site specific installations by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Andy Goldsworthy, James Turrel and many more internationally renowned artists; plus wonderful temporary exhibitions. Both places - a must see!

We loved the Hepworth which we were able to walk to from our accommodation in Marygate, and the Yorkshire sculpture park (the 96 bus handy for this). We ate well at Corarima (Abyssinian restaurant) and had a particularly good bacon sandwich at the Hepworth.

If you like charity shops you will be surprised how many there are. But there are some nice main name shops too, A cathedral, museum and lots of no traffic places to walk. There is also a decent antique shop on the upper floor of the shopping centre and also a very modern shopping centre with shops on each side with a clear domed roof about a 100foot high to keep out of the rain too. There is a Fish place called Captain Fish close to this centre. ran by Pedro and his wife. I thanked him in Greek, that impressed him. Meals very reasonable

The friendly staff The location near shops and town centre. The delicious food served in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was beautifully cooked and served. The room was quiet and comfy. Yet the pub and restaurant were just 10 yards away with plenty of music and buzz. Plenty of free parking for guests .Overall The Mews was excellent. It was exactly an English cottage inn with fabulous staff, excellent food and a very comfy and cosy ambience.

Wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel is within easy reach of Wakefield but feels like a world away. The grounds of the hotel are lovely. Our room was well furnished, large and comfortable. Nice food served in the bar downstairs and breakfast was delicious. Nice facilities including an indoor pool which was a real bonus for a winter stay. The staff were a delight and could not have made us feel more welcome.

The location was absolutely superb! Great for a night around Wakefield.. right in the centre of all the action.. and very close to lots of parking facilities and entertainment. It was super clean all towels and toiletries provided and easy to use the pin codes provided to get in and out of the property.

Great location within Wakefield City Centre. The master bed was really comfy and the 2 sofa beds were "ok" for the kids. It was spacious and did have lovely Georgian features. The photos show the apartment well but they were taken a long time ago.
