Aultbea is at the start of a peninsula which stretches for about 5 miles and has beautiful views across Loch Ewe to the peninsula on the other side from Poolewe. The scenery is spectacular in every direction. On clear days you can see the mountains of Skye, Torridon and the outline of the Outer Hebrides, as well as other mountains in the distance.

Altbea is a tiny fishing village on the shore of Loch Ewe where the Arctic Convoys set sail with aid for Russia during WW2. There is a fascinating museum dedicated to the Arctic Convoys which is a must-see. There is also a Wartime Trail which takes you on a journey round the local area and highlights all the significant wartime sites. It is a beautiful area to visit and is steeped in history.

    Aultbea is a stunning area.

Aultbea is a stunning area. We were blessed with the weather and the views over the mountains and the lochs amazing. It could be a place for piece and quiet or use centrally for visiting the local area. There is a local little shop for supplies. The hotel was closed for refurbishment but we found a little cafe Oran na Mara up the road just brilliant.

If you're staying near Aultbea, give Conor at Ewe Canoe a call. He offers kayak and canoe tours in the area. He is very knowledgable and flexible. Also, The Barn Restaurant nearby was exceptional.

Andrew was very generous with providing everything needed for a pleasant stay. He is in the process of doing some minor renovations, but these are only surface and didn't in any way detract from the comfort of our stay.

Cartmel was in an excellent location around the corner from the Arctic Convoy Museum which we had travelled to see. The room was clean and comfortable. We were pleased to be able to have an evening meal although there was no option to have a dessert. Meals were taken at the breakfast bar in the room and delivered on a trolley which was super safe although I personally prefer to be in a dining room. We had a cooked breakfast with bread and butter but there were no cereals, juice, fruit or toast. Friendly hosts. If the weather had been better we would have driven completely around Loch Ewe and aprreciated even more the part it played in WWII

The location is fantastic. Right by the sea at Aultbea and off the NC500 route. Clear instructions for how to find the property. The rooms were really cosy and comfortable - has a fridge and en-suite, which was handy. Beds super comfy. Sam and David were very kind - offered a complimentary breakfast (I had toast and some lush homemade conserve - my Dad had bacon and eggs, which made his day). Sam did offer a cooked breakfast for £10 which we would have had if we had more time. I'd absolutely stay here again.

Truly great cottage in a stunning area. The drive to Aultbea is amazing, and then you find this cottage, where everything is how you want it. Spacious, private, big terrace and big garden, very comfortable beds, and a great eye for detail. Kitchen equipment is of good quality, there was an extra hdmi-cable, basics for cooking and cleaning are there (washing powder, olive oil, pepper and salt), etc, etc. In the evening, there might be deer roaming around your garden :-)

The lodge is really confortable and looks like new. All is so nice and very clean, it gives us an impression of first guests! Aultbea is a really nice village and there are many wonderful places to go around. The owner, Michele, is an incredibly friendly woman. If you have any trouble, you know you are able to count on her, she is a such amazing woman… All my family and I are waiting to see her again!
